Unboxing Life

Four friends discussing all things anime, music, gaming, and personal adventures with a friendly flair!

The heavyweight bout you’ve all been waiting for is upon us in 2021: Kanye West’s “Donda” versus Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy”! With Kanye dropping at the end of August, it was only right for the Petty King himself to announce his album release date the day after. Both of these albums have been put through the ringer by the greater hip-hop community and by music fans as a whole, with incredibly polarizing results. The guys arrive on the scene to give their takes on the albums with regards to their rollouts, sounds, features, and overall where they’d place them against one another. Buckle up those seat belts because it’s about to be a long ride!

Corruption. Greed. Excess. Sin. All of the ingredients for a fantastic movie in “The Wolf of Wall Street”, a modern masterpiece directed by Martin Scorsese released in 2013 starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, and many others. The guys missed this incredible cinematic landmark and have Uno-reversed time to visit this crazy movie and give thoughts on it. This episode isn’t a deep dive into the plot, but more so a recount of the memorable moments and scenes, and oh boy were there plenty to pick from! The guys also talk about watching shows and listening to music from the perspective of a critic and how that can possibly hinder the entertainment, and how the guys did a bit of snorting of their own back in their heyday. Be careful with those erasers, kids!

“Family Ties” by Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar has come through like a hurricane and the guys unpack their thoughts on the new song. Is DAMN. a classic album? David & Trev attempt to answer that question alongside naming the certified classic hip-hop albums of the last 10 years. Kanye is also attempting to change his name to just “Ye”, and DONDA is nowhere to be found (this has aged poorly as it is now on streaming platforms!). They end things with talk of the new Call of Duty: Vanguard Championship Hill alpha from this past weekend and how things look for the new game.

Billie Eilish finally blesses our ears with a new album in 2021 titled “Happier Than Ever” and we give you guys the album review you have all been patiently waiting for! While the entire album isn’t My Future 16 times, the guys unpack every ounce of this album. The entire project was produced by her brother, Finneas O’Connell, otherwise known to the music world as just Finneas, and the two co-wrote every song. Talk about a dynamic duo! How did you enjoy the album? Do you feel like it lived up to the hype? Will it be a Grammy-generating machine like her previous album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Time will most certainly tell!

The guys are back at it again with another EDM review, this time of Illenium’s newest project, “Fallen Embers”! Much like Cam had to take on the fellas’ dissenting opinions of Cash Cash’s latest album, Trev finds himself on the podium this time. Did the album deliver for the crew? Who knows, but you know we can’t spoil in the description!

The boys finally get around to wrapping up the Cells at Work! anime franchise for the podcast as they tackle Cells at Work! Code Black! They waste no time getting to the meat of the show, discussing what the show did to improve its formula, as well as some problem areas still needing to be addressed down the line. Spoilers ahead!

Well everyone, we made one year of recording this podcast!!! Trev takes the reigns for the guys and guides them all through the show's most significant moments, ranging from their first reviews to adding Alex as a permanent co-host, viral moments (for us, anyways), co-hosting episodes, and even the drunk nights. Join us for a celebration of everything that makes the Unboxing Life Podcast what it is today!

INCOMING BANGER ALERT! The guys tackle an instant album of the year contender in Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, “Call Me If You Get Lost” this episode! The guys discuss all the lyrical gems, instrumentation, vibes, and their experience with Tyler up until this point. Where does it rank amongst his discography with the cast? You know the deal, baby. No spoilers!

It’s FINALLY here! Welcome to the first official installment of Unboxing Life’s Box Office series! 14 months and a pandemic later, Black Widow, Marvel’s first movie since Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 has dropped and the boys review it. They cover everything from the OP with the questionable Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit” cover to the incredibly unbelievable action and everything in between. Spoilers absolutely ahead!

The crew finally makes some time to swing back around for an anime review of season 2 of Cells at Work! While it’s only a short 8 episodes, a decent bit happens in the show and the guys spew all of the constructive criticism that they have for the season. They also look to the future with Cells at Work! Code Black on the horizon for the podcast.
